The Dunes at Maui Lani
Published On: Oct 26, 2006

It was built in 1991. The Dunes at Maui Lani turn their back on the ocean, for the most part, and provide a mountain backdrop. Designed by Architect Robin Nelson, the result has been rare Hawaiian links with character and charm. They have some of the loveliest views of the Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano. Located in Maui's central valley known as the Kahului Isthmus, which rests between two separate volcanic mountain ranges, this is the site of the renowned Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course. Minimal changes occurred in the natural beauty and landscaping when The Dunes were designed and built. The course's ancient alluvial sand dunes provide a route of up and down, over and around, but never through.

The Dunes are indeed modeled after a British links course, leaving the clubhouse at the first tee and not returning until the course is finished.

These dunes, shaped by Mother Nature over the course of time, are where the fairways and greens twist and turn. Between the twists and turns of the fairways and dunes, and the trade winds, you receive a course that will provide a strong test to even the most seasoned professional.

The Dunes at Maui Lani are ranked among the Top 100 courses in America and ranked as the second best course on Maui. A sure hole-in-one for the player. The staff is also par one. The Dunes provide a guest service staff that is cheerful and always happy to help. Their enthusiasm is contagious and you will find yourself with a smile on your face and a bounce in your step as you tee off.

They provide a well stocked pro shop, and a full service restaurant, with the same happy cheerful staff. Their restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor seating as well as an appealing bar and lounge.

In addition to the full course, The Dunes offer a golf school for the beginner, including a full service locker room and training provided by a highly dedicated team led by Master PGA teaching professional William Greenleaf. They have packages available that will rival that of any resort.

If you don't have time for a full round of golf, no worries at The Dunes. They provide the only lit practice range in Maui. The practice range includes acres of grass tees, mats and target greens. They have two practice putting and chipping greens and even provide a practice bunker. The practice area also includes, in its amenities, new range balls, large bag stands and all new hitting mats. On the practice area, you don't even have to worry about the heat getting to you as they provide an air conditioned pavilion dedicated to the users of the practice facilities. The seven practice tees were designed by course architect Nelson. Each green allows the player a chance to use different clubs. By the end of the seven the player will likely have used each and every club.

The Dunes will provide challenges and rewards to all levels of players from the beginner to the professional.
